ELEGANCE AND DIVERSITY

Óbidos’ mild climate is characterised by the morning mists in the hills. This climate contributes to the gradual ripening of the grapes, which is ideal for producing fruity, fresh and elegant wines with great ageing potential.

But Óbidos also produces wines and sparkling wines made from white grape varieties harvested at centuries-old estates and revitalised vineyards, whilst the reds are known, above all, for their great elegance. Whether white or red, sparkling or Leve Lisboa, everything tastes better in a medieval setting with the spectacular views offered by the town of Óbidos.

LISBON VINHO LEVE

Vinho Leve came about because of phylloxera. After the devastation, many vineyards were replanted with white grape varieties, but the resulting wine had a lower alcohol content than the legal minimum. This led to the need for regulation and to the creation of the Vinho Leve category, which is produced only in this region.

THE QUEENS’ DOWRY

For many centuries, Óbidos was traditionally part of the queens’ dowry, a tradition dating back to 1282. The town retains its medieval character and is known for its fairs, such as the medieval fair, the Christmas fair and the famous chocolate festival.
