FRESH WHITES AND TENSE REDS

Torres Vedras lies on the western side of the Serra de Montejunto, but the closer one gets to the coast, the more one feels the influence of the Atlantic breezes that bring morning mists and dampness to the vineyards today, as they did back in the days when the Portuguese and the English were fighting Napoleon’s forces on these lands.

However, the same wind helps to dispel this moisture on sunny afternoons, protecting the vines from disease.

The grapes have pronounced notes of salinity, with the aromatic reds displaying a character based on balanced tannins, whilst the white wines are renowned for their fresh and aromatic profile.

THE TORRES LINES

The Torres Vedras region was chosen by Arthur Wellesley, the famous General Wellington, to halt the advance of Napoleon Bonaparte’s forces, thereby preventing France from cutting off the United Kingdom from the rest of Europe and contributing to the liberation of the whole of Europe.

WILD WILD WEST

Torres Vedras is one of the most important towns in the western part of the Lisbon district. It is a rural area, made up of communities with traditional values and a strong religious heritage. However, Torres Vedras is also famous for its fantastic and very popular Carnival celebrations.
