Adega Cooperativa de São Mamede da Ventosa
In 1956, the region's main producers decided to found the Adega Cooperativa de São Mamede da Ventosa, with 48 members and chaired by Óscar Manuel de Castro. In the 1960s, land was acquired to establish a facility for grape reception and winemaking. In 1967, this facility began operating, initially handling white grapes, followed by red ones.
The winery helped drive the modernisation of the region's vineyards, leading to higher-quality wines and expanding its export markets to include the United Kingdom and other Northern European countries. Today, the winery produces around twenty million litres of wine a year, under the supervision of winemaker Rui Vieira.
