BRANDY LAND

The Lourinhã Demarcated Region is one of only three demarcated regions in the world dedicated exclusively to brandy, alongside Cognac and Armagnac. And it is the only one in Portugal.

The quality and uniqueness of wine brandy begin in the vineyards and in the selection of grape varieties, which produce wines with good acidity and aroma, and a low alcohol content – ideal requirements for obtaining a product of excellence. The grapes must come from the demarcated region, and the production, distillation and ageing processes are strictly regulated.

THE FOUNDING FATHERS

The designation of the Lourinhã region for aguardente production owes much to three key figures. The researcher Pedro Belchior, the technical engineer Estrela Carvalho and the engineer João Baptista carried out the studies that made this designation possible.

A STRONG PERSONALITY

Wine-based aguardente undergoes a mandatory ageing process, which must take place within the region and exclusively in oak and chestnut barrels with a maximum capacity of eight hundred litres. This method produces an aguardente full of character, complexity and intensity.
