Quinta do Rol
Quinta do Rol
In 1958, António Melo bought Quinta do Rol, located in Lourinhã, which in 1992 became the country's only exclusive demarcated region for wine brandy. In 1995, businessman Carlos Melo Ribeiro took over the management of the estate and began producing wine brandy independently, rather than in partnership with the Adega Cooperativa da Lourinhã as had previously been the case.
At the same time, he began planting grape varieties suitable for sparkling wine production, with the first harvest taking place in 2000. For both the sparkling wine and the wine brandy, the businessman turned to France to source the best practices and technology in order to achieve the finest possible end product.
