The Adega Cooperativa da Batalha was founded in 1959 and, by the 1980s, already had over 1,500 members. It was also during this decade that the Encostas d'Aire Designated Origin (Denominação de Origem) was established, helping to raise the profile of the region's wine both in Portugal and abroad.
Faced with a declining number of producers, Adega Cooperativa da Batalha decided to invest in enhancing the quality of its wine, primarily by refining its vineyards. The result, in the year 2000, was Real Batalha, a wine that clearly reflects the potential of the Encostas d'Aire terroir. The wines are crafted by winemakers António Ventura and Sílvia Pereira.
