The history of this estate reflects the complexity of regional and national history. Whilst the gardens date back to the period of Islamic occupation in the late 10th century, by the 15th century there was already a Franciscan convent on the site. The friars were expelled in 1834, when religious orders were abolished in the country. The site has been preserved and now operates as a heritage lodging site.
