In 2015, the businessman Zhiwei Wu, originally from Macau, purchased Quinta da Marmeleira with the aim of entering the wine business in Portugal. Once the vineyard had been restructured, production began in 2016.
The first wine, Pugnaz, is made from grape varieties harvested and carefully selected by hand; Amplo, produced from grape varieties requiring extended ageing, proves to be more universally appealing at the table; and Chamelaria, named after one of the estate's vineyard plots, is positioned as the entry-level wine in the range. Zhiwei Wu plans to add a premium brand to this trilogy.
