Every cloud has a silver lining. With a successful fruit business in the north of the country, Horácio Nicolau decided to plant Moscatel Graúdo grapes on his estate in Adão Lobo, Cadaval. However, the sweetness of the grapes fell short of expectations. Drawing on winemaking experience inherited from his father-in-law, Joaquim Olegário Santos, he decided to use the grapes to produce Vinho Leve Lisboa under the Solar da Marquesa brand.
Today, his sons Carlos and Nelson supervise production, which now includes red wines and spans a total vineyard area of 35 hectares.
