Viúva Gomes
Adega Viúva Gomes
The Viúva Gomes Winery is situated in Almoçageme, a picturesque village nestled between the sea and the Sintra Mountains. Built in 1808, it changed hands several times before coming into the possession of the Jacinto Lopes Baeta company. Today, it is the heir, José Baeta, who is dedicated to producing wine from vines that are over 50 years old.
His son, Diogo Baeta, is the winemaker behind the single-varietal wines produced on sandy soils – sometimes 100 per cent Malvasia, sometimes 100 per cent Ramisco – thus preserving the legacy of the Colares Designation of Origin. The historic building is well worth a visit, given its rich heritage and cultural significance.
