The Labrugeira Cooperative Winery was founded in 1973, spearheaded by Pedro Abreu. The early years were devoted to investment. The winery's own facility was established in 1977 and, in 1980, to avoid instability in the sector caused by fluctuations in the price of bulk wine, it began bottling. Shortly afterwards, a more rigorous selection process was introduced, with grapes being paid for based on the quantity and quality of the wine produced.
