Wine, chocolate, and a royal dowry
Beauty and medieval tradition in the land of Vinho Leve Lisboa
Óbidos was traditionally given by the King to the Queen of Portugal. It is one of the best-preserved examples of a medieval town, almost entirely nestled within its impeccably preserved ramparts. Begin by entering through the Porta da Vila, with its magnificent 18th-century tiled oratory. Take your time walking along the town walls, set aside some time to visit the Church of Santa Maria, and stroll down Rua Direita, stopping at the historic bookshops.
