Quinta do Avelar
Quinta do Avelar
Quinta do Avelar is the largest estate in the municipality of Loures and dates back to the 18th century. In 1980, it was acquired by the Geraldes Barba family, who devoted themselves to cattle and horse breeding, as well as wine production.
Despite the restructuring of the vineyard, respect for the local grape varieties has been maintained. The old vines are over 80 years old. Over the years, the estate has gradually acquired neighbouring properties and now comprises seventeen hectares of vineyards. The wine, both white and red, is crafted by winemaker Mário Andrade, an advocate of the traditional methods of Bucelas.
